Several games will support the feature, such as Destiny 2, Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition, Astro’s Playroom and more
In a PS Blog post on Monday (25) , Sony revealed that variable refresh rate support will arrive in the next few days for the next-gen console. With that in mind, MeuPlayStation has put together this little tutorial to teach you how to enable PS5 VRR .
The functionality is able to synchronize the frame rate delivered by the console with the refresh rate of the screens where the image is shown. With the “tuning” of both, each pixel of the TV or monitor will be displayed in a coordinated way. There are a number of improvements provided by the feature — the full information can be found in the special we published in March .
Before we go to the part on how to activate the PS5 VRR, it is worth remembering that several games will take advantage of this functionality. Citing a few as examples: Astro’s Playroom , Call of Duty: Vanguard and Black Ops Cold War , Destiny 2 , Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition , and more — see the full list here .
How to enable PS5 VRR?
First of all, you’ll need to download the PS5 update when the VRR arrives in the next few days — of course, you’ll need internet access to download it. The feature will automatically be active for compatible titles, but only if the console is connected to a TV or monitor via HDMI 2.1 VRR .
If you want to play a game that is not supported, just go to Settings > Display & Video > Video Output > VRR — as in the image below:
For non-compatible games, VRR may improve picture quality, but the result will depend on the TV you are using, the game you are playing and the playback mode you have selected. For more information, see the official support page .
