One of the most common errors is error 0x80004005 in Windows 10. This error usually occurs when you fail to use a shared resource on a network, such as a shared network hard drive. The usual syntax for this error is something like this: “Windows cannot access \Computer1, check your spelling… Error Code 0x80004005 Unknown Error.” How to fix error 0x80004005? There are 6 different ways to do this: – Disable IPv6, – Check NetBIOS, – Check sharing settings, – Check permissions, – Redownload Windows 10 Update, – Enable SMB 1.0 / CIFS file sharing support. Let’s take a closer look at each of these methods below.
Quick Ways to Fix Error 0x80004005
There are a few “quick fixes” worth trying to resolve this error. These specific solutions often solve the problem with error code 0x80004005.
While this is not a complete list of all possible solutions, there is a good chance that one of these fixes will work for you.
Disable IPv6
One of the fixes for error code 0x80004005 is to disable the IPv6 protocol on your computer. In any case, you don’t need IPv6 right now unless you’re using an IPv6 network.
Just follow these four steps to try this fix:
1 .Right-click the Windows Start button and select Network Connections.

2 .Click “Change adapter settings”.

3 .Right-click your network adapter and select Properties.

4 .Find “Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)” in the center pane and uncheck it.

Most network configurations still use IPv4 and will continue to use IPv4 for the foreseeable future, so you won’t need IPv6 for a while unless you’re on a corporate network that already uses IPv6.
If that doesn’t fix the error, move on to the next suggested solution.
Check NetBIOS
The next step to resolve error code 0x80004005 is to verify that the NetBIOS service is running. NetBIOS allows computers connected to a network to share resources. If it doesn’t work or is not enabled, it may throw an error.
Follow these steps to make sure the NetBIOS service is enabled:
1 .In the same window as above, highlight “IPv4” and click the “Properties” button at the bottom.

2 .Click Advanced, then select the WINS tab.

3 .Make sure the NetBIOS setting is set to Default.

If NetBIOS is working as expected, go to the next possible solution.
Check sharing settings
If the problem is not in the NetBIOS settings, look at the advanced sharing settings.
1 .Go to “Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center -> Advanced Sharing Settings”.

2 .Click “Private” network and make sure “Turn on network discovery” is enabled and “Enable automatic configuration…” is checked. Make sure “Turn on file and printer sharing” is also enabled.

3 .Click “All networks” and make sure the “Turn off password-protected network sharing” option is enabled.

If you’ve made changes to your sharing settings, retest your share to see if it fixed the 0x80004005 error. If the changes did not resolve the error code, proceed to check the permissions.
Check Permissions
1 .Right-click the folder or drive you want to share and select Properties.

2 .Click the Sharing tab, then select Advanced Sharing.

3 .Make sure the box next to Share this folder is checked, then click Permissions.

4 .Select the “Everyone” group, which should be on the top panel, and allow “Full control”. If there is no Everyone group, click Add and type Everyone in the bottom bar, then select it.

If the permissions didn’t help, proceed to redownload Windows 10 updates.
Redownload Windows 10 Update
If you’re getting error code 0x80004005 while trying to update Windows 10, the problem might be caused by a corrupted setup file. To fix this, try re-downloading the Windows 10 installer and starting over. As frustrating as it sounds, it’s worth a try if that’s the source of the problem.
Enabling SMB 1.0 / CIFS File Sharing Support
