Elden Ring has an equipment upgrade system. With it, the player will be able to improve their weapons using a special material – a blacksmith’s stone. This guide will help the player to know where to find and how to use blacksmith stone.

Where to find Master Blacksmith Hugh and what blacksmith stones are used for

You can improve shields and regular weapons with the help of blacksmithing stones. In the starting location near the table located in the Temple of Ella, you can upgrade equipment to the third level. Master Blacksmith Hugh is needed to perform a full upgrade of the player’s equipment.

Where to buy blacksmith stone in Elden Ring

The player first needs to get to the Round Table Fortress in order to subsequently become available to the Blacksmith.

But, first you need to do the following:

  1. Passing through the story and defeating the first boss. The player needs to go to the northwest and approach Thunder Veil Castle. Here you need to meet with the boss Margita Dire Omen. It is not necessary to kill him.
  2. After meeting with the boss, the player will be able to rest at the place of grace, located right there. You need to watch the cut-scene where you will see Melina. She will offer the player to take him to the Fortress of the Round Table. You can’t refuse, so you need to agree and follow her.
  3. In the Fortress on the second floor, in a room not far from the Table of Lost Grace, master blacksmith Hugh will stand behind the anvil. After talking with him, the ability to upgrade weapons will become available.

Visiting a blacksmith, it turns out that he himself does not sell blacksmith stones. The player himself will have to find and collect materials that will improve his weapons. However, Hugh will need to pay some runes for his work. If the player has consumables and currency, then Hugh will be able to upgrade any weapon that you need. Also, the Blacksmith will be able to change the name of your weapon.

What levels are blacksmith stones in Elden Ring

Blacksmith stones can be of different levels. For a more powerful weapon improvement, you need to use stones with higher characteristics.

For each subsequent upgrade of the weapon, more materials will be needed. Next, a blacksmith stone of the next level will be needed, and then, for subsequent improvement, it will be reset to one.

You can upgrade weapons to level 25 using 12 stones of each type. To improve a special weapon, it will be enough to use one stone at a time, and you can only pump weapons up to level 10.

Next, let’s look at what bonuses can be obtained using blacksmith stones of each level, and where to look for them:

  • Smithing stone level 1 allows you to strengthen weapons up to +3. In the Graveyard, it can be exchanged with the Twin Old Handmaids, giving them the miner’s smithing bell sphere, which is in Raya Lukaria’s Crystal Tunnel;
  • Smithing stone level 2 gives you the ability to enhance weapons up to +6. It can be found in Lake Liurnia and the Weeping Peninsula by also contacting the Twin Old Handmaids and trading the Miner’s Forge Bell Orb, which Raia Lukaria’s Crystal Tunnel has;
