Another game from the creators of the Dark Souls series – Elden Ring – differs not only in the open world, but also in the pumping system. The weapons in the game have new categories and types, different from the soullike games.



The developers have replaced the old weapon upgrade mechanics. Elden Ring uses the Ashes of War for this. Our guide will tell you about the types, requirements, bonuses and new mechanics of improvement.
Types of weapons Elden Ring
As in many soul games, weapons in Elden Ring do not change, and some types of weapons become new for players:
- daggers;
- straight swords;
- big swords;
- curved swords;
- katanas;
- two-edged swords;
- hammers;
- axes;
- spears;
- large spears;
- light bows;
- staves of shining stones;
- sacred seals.
Weapon requirements and bonuses in Elden Ring
In Elden Ring, in order to use a weapon, the character must meet its requirements. The player pumps them when visiting a fire. What are these requirements for? If your character has less dexterity than the bow requires, then damage to enemies will be minimal. Therefore, you need to use weapons more effective for the characteristics of the character.
When you open the details of the weapon, columns with letters appear. This is the bonus from the characteristics of the character. Passing the game involves pumping your character, investing souls in increasing the characteristics of strength, agility, and others. There are 6 weapon stats in total, with the best one being S, followed by A, B, C, D, and E.
If the weapon has an A or S value in the power cell, then the character will deal more damage if you also pumped this characteristic for souls. Some weapons have multiple stat scaling. For example, there are swords that strike with magic or pyromancy. Such weapons will have a greater bonus from the points invested in the corresponding characteristics of the character.



Weapon Damage Types in Elden Ring
Weapons in the game deal several types of damage. With a long sword, you can deal normal damage with a standard attack, and piercing damage with a charged attack. Some enemies in Elden Ring can be immune to certain types of damage. This knowledge will help to effectively use different types of weapons in the given conditions for the character.
The weapon’s damage type can be changed using the War Ashes tab in the Place of Grace. Ashes of War has a different effect, in the selected category you can see how to equip your weapon.
When using Ashes of War: Gravity, the longsword will scale from intelligence, thus adding magic damage. INT – C will be added to the characteristics of the weapon STR – D and INT – D, and the scale from the STR parameter will increase to E. The more you pump Wisdom to the character, the more damage from such weapons will be. Passing the locations of the game will help you get more useful upgrades and weapons.
Weapon Skills and Ashes of War
In Elden Ring, weapons have their own skill that the player can use. To do this, press L2 on the gamepad and the skill is activated. Then OK, located under the character’s health bar, will begin to be spent. Loaded weapons are more effective against enemies.
You can change the weapon skill yourself by using the Ashes of War you are interested in. However, some skills can only be combined with certain types of weapons.
War Ash buffs can be modified. Therefore, you should not worry about your weapon, you didn’t like one gain, you can put another. However, unique weapons cannot be modified with Ashes of War.
