Rennala Fullmoon is the Queen of Kariya and the Principal of Raya Lukaria’s Wizardry Academy in Elden Ring . She can be found at the end of the Raya Lukaria legendary dungeon after the fight with Radagon’s red wolf. The fight with Rennala is optional, but very useful. Defeating her is needed to advance the Snow Witch of Renna quest and unlocks the ability to redistribute stats. In addition, after the battle, the quest chain of Fiya and Brother Korin will begin.
In the first phase, Rennala flies in an impenetrable bubble over an arena filled with her students. To lower it, you need to attack minions with a golden orb. One hit is enough to break the sphere, then the spell will pass to another student. On a large arena, you can search for the right opponent for a long time. The easiest way to figure out a student who has crossed the sphere is to track where books are flying at you from, engulfed in purple flames.
When moving around the arena, you should be especially careful in the aisles between the bookshelves. The opening between the shelves is illuminated shortly before the chandelier falls. It takes a lot of HP and stuns the player. When Rennala first falls, she will start using her students as projectiles. Cabinets and other furniture will not protect against attacks, it is better to roll and run.
After removing the three orbs, Rennala will fall into the middle of the arena. Full Moon is almost immune to any magical damage. But it is very vulnerable to bleeding and physical attacks. The main thing is to deal as much damage to her as possible so as not to delay this part of the boss fight. The Ashes of War, which adds a bleeding effect, and throwing kukri will help with this.
Mages can also try to enchant melee weapons for blood, but a more effective option would be the gravity magic “Stone Sling”. You can find the spell in the Starry Wastes, in a dungeon under the ruins of the Street of the Sages. The sling deals physical damage with rocks picked up from the ground. This spell, combined with the meteor staff found there, is the only effective way to kill Rennala as a mage.
After Rennala’s health bar ends, the fight will move on to the second phase – in the arena, reminiscent of the battle site with the spider Romm from Bloodborne. Here Rennala will use all his magical abilities, which cause tremendous damage and are very dangerous at a long distance.
The second phase begins with a comet spell. Tumbling away from the beam is a less reliable strategy than sprinting counterclockwise. It is best to move in a spiral, gradually reducing the distance with Rennala. When she casts a four energy projectile spell, you need to roll forward, ignoring the flying spell – the roll will grant invulnerability frames.
In close combat, Rennala is almost defenseless. She brushes aside a not-so-powerful enchantment and at one point casts a Dark Moon Charm. Rennala hides inside the magical moon and creates an explosion near her. You can only run away from this attack.
Rennala also summons phantoms of wolves, a giant and dragons. Only the dragon is dangerous, but it, like the rest of the summons, must be ignored. The summoned spirits are quite clumsy and disappear after a series of attacks. Therefore, the best strategy is to run towards Rennala and try to deal maximum damage to her until she summons the Dark Moon again. Summoned spirits will be a good help for magicians, they will distract the boss to themselves. At this time, you can land several hits with the Stone Sling or replenish health and mana.
After the fight, Rennala will become a friendly NPC and give the Rebirth Rune. Now you can redistribute stat points from Rennala, and buy a Rennala set from Enya Fingerreader. The sorceress headdress gives +3 to Wisdom and is very useful for mages.
