With the COVID-19 pandemic, many of us have had to do our daily tasks away from the comfort of our home, thanks to video conferencing tools like Google Meet. Mountain View’s products have grown significantly in their user base ever since Google began rolling out free to all users.
Meet is available for iOS, Android and the web. This means that you can use it from anywhere, where you have an internet connection. But what if you could use the biggest screen in your home, the TV, for everyone in the living room to see? You’re crazy, aren’t you? But it is possible.
What is Meet on Chromecast?
Google is rolling out support for Google Meet on Chromecast. This means that you can cast the meeting on the big screen of your home. This feature allows you to mirror your meeting screen directly from your PC to your Chromecast, Cast-enabled TV, or Cast-enabled device.
With Chromecast Meet, users can join meetings and watch presentations, attend lectures, connect with family, and more, from anywhere in their homes. All on the big screen. When you cast a meeting to a TV, the TV only shows the contents of the meeting screen, but the video feed and audio input are sent via the PC to other participants.
what do you need
If you want to cast a Google Meet meeting on your TV, you need the following settings:
- TV connected to Google Chromecast or TV compatible with Chromecast
- The latest version of Google Chrome browser on your PC
- WiFi connection common to both PC and Chromecast
How to cast Google Meet to your TV
If you want to project a meeting from Google Meet on your PC to your TV, follow the steps below. Keep in mind that when you cast a meeting to your TV, only the meeting screen will be broadcast to your TV and you will need a computer to use the camera, microphone, and audio.
You can cast a Google Meet meeting both before and after joining a session. Make sure your Chromecast device is set up before performing the following steps. You can check this Google support page to get started with Chromecast.
Here’s how to get started:
Before attending the meeting
To cast the meeting screen on your TV before joining a Google Meet session, join the meeting on Meet using Google Calendar or Google Meet on the web. Click the Cast This Meeting option before entering the main meeting screen. This will open the Google Chrome Cast tab.
On this tab, select a Chromecast-enabled device that is linked to your Google account and is available on the same WiFi network as your PC.
The conference screen will now appear on the selected TV. For a better experience, adjust your TV and computer so that both your TV and webcam look at the same camera angle.
After attending the meeting
After attending, you can also cast the meeting on TV Meet. To do this, log in to Google Meet and join the meeting. Once in the meeting screen, click the three-dot icon in the lower right corner of the window and select the Cast This Meeting option from the pop-up menu.
In the new Cast tab that opens, select the Chromecast-enabled device that is linked to your Google account. Make sure this Chromecast device is connected to the same WiFi network as your PC.
Select your Chromecast device and the meeting will start appearing on your TV.
How to stop casting Google Meet conferences
Once the Google Meet meeting on your TV is over, you can stop casting on your Chromecast device. To do this, click the three-dot icon in the lower right corner of the meeting screen and select the Stop Casting Meeting option. Now the meeting screen will only be displayed on your PC.
